The Side Hem Option page is used to create and modify the properties of the available side hem options when manufacturing curtains. Refer to the Setup your Curtain Business page for general details on how to create, update and delete side hem options. If there is only one side hem option defined, then this option will be used by default for all made to order curtains added to an order, and there will be no side hem field displayed. If there are multiple side hem options defined then the side hem field will be displayed on the order details page allowing the user to select from the available options.
Creating a new Side Hem Option #
To create a new side hem option, start by entering a description for the option, or alternatively select one of the preset side hem options from the list and then modify the description if required. Click on the Save & Continue button to proceed and then complete the fields as described in the following sections.
Description #
The description for the side hem option, this will be displayed on the order details page for the user to select from where there are multiple side hem options configured.
Side Hem Width #
The width of the side hem.
Limited to Fabric Types #
This field allows one or more fabric types to be selected in order to restrict which fabric types may be used for the side hem option. If no fabric types are selected here then the side hem option may be used for all fabric types. An example of where this feature may be useful is for a single folded blind-stitched hem for thicker fabrics, which may be limited to fabric types such as velvet.
Make this the default side hem option for the selected fabric types #
This switch may be enabled if the side hem option should automatically be selected for any curtains added to an order with a fabric type selected in the Limited to Fabric Types field. If no fabric types have been selected then enabling this option will mean it is applied to curtains of all fabric types.
Hem Fabric Width Formula #
The hem fabric width formula is used to calculate the amount of fabric required to manufacture a curtain with that side hem option. Please refer to the Writing Expression Formulas page for general information on writing expression formulas.
The following variable is available when defining a hem fabric width formula:

The expression formula for calculating the amount of fabric for a side hem option should return a value for a single side hem – the resulting value will be automatically multiplied by 2 (for both the left and right side hems of a curtain) to be added to the total width of the curtain cutting plan.
In many cases, curtain workrooms and manufacturing facilities will standardize on a single type of side hem, generally a double folded hem with a set width. In these cases, the fabric width expression formula becomes a simple multiplication of the hem width x 2:
